Vanessa Hudgens Reacts to Austin Butler’s ‘Elvis’ Accent

Vanessa Hudgens apparently feels the same way about Austin Butler that she should probably drop the southern accent. Hudgens recently responded to an Instagram user’s post about the Elvis actor speaking with an Elvis accent. In the caption, the social media user joked that Butler attended “Lady Gaga’s Oscars campaign acting school.”

While responding in the comments to the post, as captured by Comments By Celebs, the actress wrote, “Crying.” Vanessa Hudgens officially split from Austin Butler in January 2020 after years of dating. To the uninitiated, Butler has faced plenty of backlash during his promotional tour and subsequent awards season campaign to continue the accent he developed while playing Elvis Presley in the biopic, Elvis.

Not long ago, Butler recalled how Hudgens encouraged him to pursue the role in the first place, though he only referred to her as a “friend.” The actor recalled, “The month before she heard that Baz was doing the movie, she was going to see the Christmas lights with a friend.” Butler added: “There was an Elvis Christmas song on the radio and I was singing it, and my friend looked at me and said, ‘You’ve got to play Elvis.’ I said, ‘Oh, that’s such a long shot.’”

Austin continues: “A couple of weeks later, I was playing the piano.” The actor added, “I never really sang for any of my friends or anything. That same friend was there and I was playing the piano. She said: ‘I’m serious. You have to figure out how you can get the rights to a script. So my agent called and said, ‘So Baz Luhrmann is making an Elvis movie.’” While Butler didn’t name Hudgens specifically, the actress shared a similar story years ago when the two were still together.
