Report Examines Rumors That Edge Will Join AEW After WWE Retirees

Edge has hinted at his retirement in August 2023, but is his retirement only with WWE? Could he look to make a career in AEW before really hanging up?

When Edge signed a three-year contract in 2020 to return to WWE, there was talk that he could have leveraged AEW against his current employer to get the best deal possible to return. If true, it would make sense that whispers of him potentially jump to AEW once his contract runs out and he retires this summer. He could make a lot of money with a final race featuring his good friend Christian. All this being said, don’t expect it.

According to a recent report, WWE doesn’t feel like Edge is going to go to AEW when he’s done with WWE. In fact, it is said that WWE would be surprised if Edge decided to go down that path. Edge talked about hanging up his wrestling boots in Ontario this year, but the popular Twitter account @WrestleVotes pointed out during an exclusive conversation with GiveMeSport.com that Edge will actually be retiring from in-ring competition.

They note: “If the summer in Toronto pulls out, I wouldn’t be surprised. I would be surprised if he ends his current contract and then goes to AEW, WWE would be surprised too. Even though you have a Christian factor, you know, they could team up one more time and wrestle each other one more time, I’d be surprised if he wrestles beyond WWE. WWE would also be very surprised.”

How will Edge close out his WWE career?

Considering he’s noted that he’d like to wrap things up this summer in his hometown of Toronto, that doesn’t give WWE or Edge much time to work up a bigger story for him. If August 2023 is when he finishes his career, both parties have about four months to work as many programs as they can into his retirement game.

There’s been no talk of what’s next for him, having just ended his feud with Finn Balor at WrestleMania 39. The most likely scenario would be losing a retirement match to a younger start that Edge would like to elevate.
