Nate Diaz seems poised to make a comeback to the UFC 300, and he wants Leon Edwards. The Stockton fighter left the UFC following his victory against Tony Ferguson at UFC 279 in 2022. Diaz’s most recent bout was in August of the same year against Jake Paul in his boxing debut.

Although Diaz suffered a unanimous decision loss in the fight, he has recently expressed his eagerness to return to the UFC. Notably, Diaz has declined callouts from Dustin Poirier and currently does not seem inclined to pursue a trilogy fight with Conor McGregor in the immediate future.

Diaz also turned down the opportunity to fight for the PFL against Paul in an MMA rematch. Diaz has reaffirmed his loyalty to the UFC with Dana White also publicly stating that the former UFC fighter will always have a home in the organization.

Diaz Offered Rare Praise For Edwards

In what could mark a significant return to the Octagon at UFC 300 next year, former lightweight title contender Nate Diaz has suggested that there are currently no suitable opponents available for him. Diaz has now set his sights on a rematch with welterweight champion Leon Edwards, signaling his interest in a title bout.

The two fighters previously shared the Octagon at UFC 263 two years ago, where Diaz experienced a one-sided unanimous decision loss to the Birmingham native, Edwards. Despite the defeat, Diaz nearly pulled off a major upset by rocking the now-champion in the final minute of the fifth round, creating a moral victory in the eyes of his biggest supporters.

Diaz usually doesn’t have kind words for potential opponents but seemingly has a soft spot for Edwards. The UFC veteran praised Edwards’ performance against Colby Covington in UFC 297 on Twitter during the event.

In addition, the the build-up to his Jake Paul fight, Diaz expressed interest in the rematch, offering praise to the UFC welterweight champion.

“I don’t think I’m over him either, too,” Diaz said. “He’s great. He’s a great fighter also, and it’d be cool if he hung on to (the UFC title) for a while and he deserves it. Trains hard and works hard.”

It turned out that Edwards’ managed to hang on to the title by dominating Covington. While there is a small chance Diaz ends up getting the rematch, crazier things have happened in the UFC.
