In preparation for a match this weekend at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Finn Balor appeared on the “Cheap Heat with Peter Rosenberg” show to promote the event. During the interview, he was asked about a number of topics. From Judgment Day to live events, the discussion was entertaining and informative. However, the most moving part of the interview came when Rosenberg and Balor started talking about the late Bray Wyatt.

During that part of the conversation, Balor revealed that he had plans to put on a unique match with Wyatt that the WWE Universe would have loved to see. He said, “Obviously I’d had the opportunity to work with him a lot as Finn versus Bray, as the Demon versus Bray, as Finn versus The Fiend. The one thing that I’m sad that we didn’t ever get to get to was this Fiend versus Demon match and that was something that we talked about at length.” He went on to say that both were hoping it would eventually happen, “…but you know, it’s not to be.”

Balor talked about how life and the show must go on and noted that if something were to happen to him, he’d like the shows to continue. He said, “I’m sure knowing Bray as well as I do, he definitely wanted the show to go on and then that’s what we’ve done for him.”

Finn Balor WrestleMania 39

The conversation took a somber turn when Balor addressed the locker room’s atmosphere following the tragic news of Bray Wyatt’s untimely passing. The wrestling community, still reeling from the loss, came together to honor Wyatt’s life in a touching ceremony held in Florida. Balor noted that such losses within the wrestling industry were occurring all too frequently, casting a shadow of sorrow over the community.

The Fiend vs. The Demon Would Have Been Outstanding

Few characters resonate with fans like The Demon and The Fiend did. While Balor seems to have put that alter ego aside and is focused on his heel persona as part of Judgment Day, whenever that character does show up, the WWE Universe pops in a major way. The Fiend, meanwhile, wasn’t always understood by every wrestling fan, but those who loved the character followed every little nuance of it intently. Had those two ever met in the ring, it would have been WrestleMania-worthy.

The elusive Fiend versus Demon match may forever remain a tantalizing “what if” in wrestling lore. Nevertheless, the commitment to honoring Bray Wyatt’s legacy and making him proud continues to inspire Balor, each match serving as a tribute to their departed friend and comrade.
