Backstage update on Edge’s contract status with WWE

The previously reported details regarding Edge’s WWE contract may not be entirely accurate. What is the plan for him going forward?

The last time fans saw Edge in a WWE ring was after The Rated-R Superstar lost an “I Quit” match to Finn Balor at Extreme Rules on October 8. After that match, he hasn’t been seen or heard from since, which might not be terribly surprising if earlier reports of his limited-date contract are accurate. With that being said, Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp reported that certain details of Edge’s contract may not be as stated above.

The belief was that Edge had signed a three-year contract in 2020. The details were that he would make 25 appearances and fight five bouts per year. Just looking at the numbers he’s already posted since 2020, that number has to be wrong. Fightful reports that Edge competed in 10 matches in 2021 and has already competed in six matches in 2022.” That means he has exceeded his limit and though there could be a deal for one more match in 2022 and it is unlikely he will fight again before then. of 2023, there is speculation that their treatment is much more inclusive than originally thought.

Sapp explained that it is unclear how much time is left on Edge’s contract. He notes that “we’re not sure when his contract ends or how many appearances remain on his existing contract. If the length was reported correctly, that contract could end soon, if he wasn’t frozen due to injury. We haven’t confirmed if that’s the case”.

Weird way for Edge to come out

If his match with Balor was the end and taking a punch from Rhea Ripley was his last appearance, it seems like an odd way for WWE to bring him to the end of his current contract. Logically, he has more appearances scheduled on his contract or WWE intends to renew his current contract. It would make sense if he has a few more matches on the deal, one or both of which will take place at the Royal Rumble or even WrestleMania.
